Whilst fixed term employees are not permanent employees, it is important to remember a few cardinal rules when dealing with fixed term employees.
The Labour Relations Act states that an employer must treat fixed term employee “no less favourably” than an employee employed on a permanent basis performing the same or similar work . This means that if an employer has permanent employees doing the same work that a the fixed term employee is doing and the others are on the company’s medical aid and provident fund, the fixed term employee would be entitled to the same treatment.
